Professor Liz Kay

Liz is Foundation Dean at Peninsula School of Medicine and Dentistry

Liz Kay qualified BDS in 1982 from the University of Edinburgh. She acquired a Masters Degree in Public Health from the University of Glasgow in 1984 and remained there to study for a PhD, which she completed in 1991.  She then became Senior Lecturer at the University of Dundee.  She has subsequently undertaken specialist training in Dental Public Health and for the last 15 years was a Consultant in the speciality.  She is now Honorary Academic Director for Dental Public Health for NHS Devon, Plymouth and Torbay.

In May 2006 she was appointed as the Inaugural Dean of Peninsula Dental School, having previously been Professor of Dental Health Services Research at the University of Manchester.  From 1st December 2009 to 31 August 2010 she took on the additional role of Interim Dean of Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry. Having successfully graduated the first cohort of dentists from the new School, she is now Foundation Dean, Professor of Dental Public Health as well as Academic Director of Dental Public Health.

She is also a past Scientific Adviser to the British Dental Association and is currently the Chair of the management committee for the Shirley Glasstone Hughes Trust Fund at the British Dental Association and trustee of the British Dental Health Foundation.

She has over 126 scientific papers and journal articles, and is principal author of four text books and co author of one other, along with contributing several chapters to academic text books.  Her research interests lie in decision analysis and health service research.

Away from work Liz has five horses, is a keen skier and a cryptic crossword fan.
